| Even Yoda loves our jams. We're like DJ's for Jedis. |
So I got busy and found some new tunes and made a playlist for us. You can check out the track list below. We also published the Spring 2010 RFML Playlist on iTunes where you can hear everything. Here it is:
- 6 Foot 7 Foot (feat. Cory Gunz) by Lil Wayne [Editor's Note: According to the Cap'n this song is not good for kids, just because it has a lot of curse words and stuff and Lil Wayne may or not be a felon or something. He was like "I can't believe you're listening to this with Mini in the car!" And I was all "Umm... it's educational. Because it teaches *counting*" Somehow he seemed unconvinced and has since laid down a No Lil Wayne Dictum when kids are in the car. What a square. - xo, Lydia]
- Right Round by Flo Rida
- Hello by Martin Solveig & Dragonette
- Rocketeer by Far East Movement & Ryan Tedder
- MASH-UP ALERT!!! Jennifer Lopez vs Edward Maya ft Pitbull & Vika - Love On The Stereo Floor by DJ Ryson

- Get It Right (Glee Cast Version)
- Just the Way You Are by Bruno Mars

| This is a GLEE-heavy playlist. Because the kids love it. OK, fine. We're Gleeks. Suck it. |
Now please help us! We need your recommendations. The last time we asked you to send your song suggestions we got SO MUCH good stuff. So! What's good out there? Especially stuff we may not have heard of. What are the songs that your kids love that you can actually stand listening to? When we get enough of them, we'll compile them into a Volume 2 on iTunes.
Gracias hookers!
xo, Lydia & Kate(c)Herding Turtles, Inc. 2009 - 2011

Have you listened to 'The Fratellis'? Their song 'Flathead' was in one of the first ipod commercials - it's pretty rockin' stuff!

ReplyDeleteI agree with Mimi. Vampire weekend or phoenix. Totally awesome. Neon Trees whole album is great too!!
ReplyDeleteYo mommas! There are more than 15 songs on the iTunes list but there's a weird scrolly thing you have to do in order to see them. Scrolly downy thing on the side...

I have enoyed learning new latin music in Zumba class. Try "Bon, Bon" by Pitbull, "Calabria 2008 feat. Natasja" by Enur, "Gasolina" by Daddy Yankee, "Walk Like an Egyptian (Real Reggaeton version)" by Wilman de Jesus, and "Prrrum" by Cosculluela. The beauty of this music is that some of it could be quite rude, but your kids will never know because it's all in Spanish.
ReplyDeleteI recently accidentally loaded a TOTALLY inappropriate Ani DeFranco song on my 5 year old's ipod.
ReplyDeleteForget You by Ceelo.. (the bad version is great when you're without kiddos!) and totally agree about Perfect by Pink! Firework by Katy Perry, Just a Dream by Nelly, King of Anything by Sarah Barielles (sp?)!!
ReplyDeleteVoltaire! He had a couple of songs used in the Billy & Mandy cartoon on Cartoon Network, and while much of his music is not especially kid-friendly, he has quite a few tracks that are. Check out To the Bottom of the Sea and Spooky Songs for Creepy Kids.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Loser Like Me! Glee is so awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat Krista said! Also, "Shut it Down" by Pitbull, and Fulanito's "Wiggle Wiggle" and "Callate". "Not Big" by Lily Allen. "Fairytale" by Sara Bareilles. "That's Not My Name" by the Ting Tings. "Mercy" by Duffy.
ReplyDeleteAnything by Lily Allen will crack you up. Although she's probably not for the kids either. ;)
ReplyDeleteI would recommended a local to you band, Carbon Leaf. They are great! My almost three year old loves their music as well, in the car I put it on when he is freaking out and he calms down and starts singing along.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.carbonleaf.com/
I love the entire Mumford and Sons album, not just Little Lion Man.
ReplyDeleteLove Phoenix...Lisztomania rocks out on my radio daily. I also LOVE Rumour Has It by Adele. If we're getting all "Gleek" then I P.Y.T. and When I Get You Alone are awesome. And ANYTHING by the Black Keys is always welcome on my radio.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had something to contribute, but I am so not cool in the music department right now. I am still plugging along with my iPod mini and haven't uploaded any new songs onto it in ages. We have, however, been enjoying the original Sound of Music soundtrack as of late. My two-and-a-half year old son's current favorite is "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria". Awesome.

ReplyDeleteUndo It~ Carrie underwood
Stuck like Glue~Sugarland
Little White Church~Little Big Town
Only Prettier~miranda lambert (This song kinda annoyed me at first but then grew on me

Viva La Vida by Coldplay
Let's Just Fall In Love Again by Jason Castro

Sunday with the Flu - Yodelice
Alors on Danse - Stromae
No Stress - Laurent Wolf

Should've Listened ~~ Nickelback
I find most of these stress relievers in addition to fun.
Oh dear, reading these suggestions makes me feel like I'm from another time and place - I recognize maybe 1 out of 20 of them. Enjoy what you like, but I'm afraid my only good suggestion right now would be "Alegria" by Los Pinguos - well, anything by Los Pinguos, but that one is so incredibly catchy. . . .
ReplyDeleteLaughed when I read Lily Allen. She has a song F*** You that is hysterical and my friends know it so we may or may not hum the chorus when things get a bit irritating in public places like work.....
ReplyDeleteMichael Franti is at the top of my list right now. He just sounds like summer.
Family Force 5 are the most-loved group by my kids and me. Our favorite tracks are "Dance or Die", "Put Ur Hands Up" "Love Addict" and "Supersonic". Also Gleeks here :)
ReplyDeleteAnd seriously, how can you "raise those kids right" without some killer 80s music? Throw those kids some Bon Jovi, for crying out loud. Also, my kids may or may not know all the words to "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" by the Georgia Satellites.
my child is big on anything lady gaga or Taio Cruz... his Dynamite album rocks out! He also "raises the roof" when asked, especially why Jump around and kriskross's JUMP come on! lol
ReplyDeleteMexican Mavis by Boy & Bear
ReplyDeleteShell Games by Bright Eyes
Windows Are Down by Amos Lee
My Body by Young the Giant
Gone by Donnis
Marathon by Tennis
So Low by Talib Kweli
Seconding what Gertrude said re Mumford & Sons. At the very least, you need to add "The Cave" & "Sigh No More" from that CD to the playlist.
ReplyDeleteIf you like Mumford and Sons, check out the Avett Brothers, specifically I and Love and You, Murder in the City, Head Full of Doubt, Ill With Want... My four year old knows all the lyrics to every album of The Gaslight Anthem, and all the kids love the soundtrack to Across the Universe which is all Beatles songs sung by the movie cast.
ReplyDeleteRazorback Mommy
Cage the Elephant - Thank You Happy Birthday has some great songs on it!!
ReplyDelete"Uncharted" by Sarah Bareilles. You are welcome.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to add "WalMart Woman" by Sue Fabisch.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97cWs8tW8mY
The whole Bruno Mars album is bad ass! My 2 year old LOVES "Runaway Baby" and "Count On Me." The latter is totally educational and it will even meet the Cap'n's approval for appropriate lyrics. :) Rock on hot mamas!
ReplyDeleteAquabats- Pizza Day
ReplyDeleteThis is like my favorite song. <3 Them! A good album of theirs to have is Myths, Legends and Other Amazing Adventures Vol.2
I forgot...
ReplyDeletePumped Up Kicks by Foster the People
What You Know by Two Door Cinema
Young Blood by The Naked & Famous
If you use Pandora, type in Mumford and Sons and you get an awesome mix of music!
ReplyDeleteI really like Anya Marina, although some of her songs may not be appropriate. She has a fun voice.
ReplyDeleteKick Drum Heart by the Avett Brothers
ReplyDeleteS&M by Rihanna. I was rocking out to it in the minivan the other day. I may or may not have had a toddler in the back. It's so wrong, but so catchy - and perfect for the treadmill.
ReplyDeleteD******d by Kate Nash. Love it.
Almost anything by Leonard Cohen-an oldie, yes, but really, really a goodie. Especially from his Live in London album.
ReplyDeleteTry out I'm Your Man, A Thousand Kisses Deep, The Tower of Song, almost anything really. But some of it might have to be censored by the Captain.
Bad Things by Lal Meri :)
ReplyDeleteMy kids (ok, me too) absolutely love …
ReplyDeleteAlmost anything by Bruno Mars

Yeah, I know, we kick it old school
OK, I'm totally old-school with my car music. But we still bust a sweet move! Are you only looking for new stuff?
ReplyDeleteHere are my top "old" kid-friendly songs:
Signed, Sealed, Delivered, by Stevie Wonder
It's Your Thing, by The Isley Brothers
Beans and Cornbread, by Louis Jordan
Ain't Nobody Here but Us Chickens, by Louis Jordan
And some contemporary songs that the kids love:
Touch the Sky, by Kanye West
Don't Steal Our Sun, by The Thrills
Hounds of Love, by The Futureheads
Raid, by Madvillain
Oh...and we also love Gwenyth's Cee Lo cover of 'Forget You'. Don't hate me...
Maroon 5 and Amy Winehouse are in play currently. Plain White T's "Rhythm of Love" Ditto the 80's music - The Police, Tom Petty... Of course my DH corrupts them by listening to the bluegrass channel - lots of twangy banjo "my wife and my dog left me and the mine closed down" songs but they love it.
ReplyDeleteOh, definitely "S&M" by Rihanna. "Sticks and stones may break my bones but whips and chains excite me"...need I say more? My 5-yr-old may or may not walk around singing "S S S and M M M."
ReplyDeleteOthers on my current gym list~
"ET"~Katy Perry
"Impossible"~Shontelle
"What's My Name"~Rihanna
"Grenade"~Bruno Mars
"Born This Way"~Lady Gaga
"FU"~Ceelo Green
"Pretty Girl Rock"~Keri Hilson
"Rhythm of Love" by the Plain White T's!!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7eyqCQYBGY
ReplyDeleteBlue October - Jumprope - kiddoes will like the rhythms of the song; the meaning of the song really hits me when I'm having one of those "I need to just go back to bed" days
