My Favorite Squirrel is a Dead Squirrel

You know how I feel about squirrels. I can't stand them. They make me insane. Also? They're domestic enemies.

Then I saw this video on Facebook (thank you for sharing this, Earth Monkey Moms - you guys are beyond cool).  IT IS JUST SO DAMN WRONG. And it is also awesome. And adorable and nauseating.

I seriously love this family so much.

Prepare yourself. This video is amazeballs.

  2. I saw this this morning and I haven't been the same. I don't even know what to say. She's so pleased to have the squirrel and she's also so pleased that it's dead. What the whuck?!?!?

  3. OMG the little girl is so cute but there is no way on Gods green earth I would let my child play with a dead animal. Maybe I just know too much about the parasites, etc that they can carry.

  4. Her poor parents are going to catch so much flak over this, but is it just so awesome.

  5. I...seriously did not know whether to laugh, cry or throw up. So I did a little bit of all...

  6. I am so proud of that mom! I don't know how she kept her cool. I'm not sure that I could have. And you're right... The video is so wrong, but funny in its own right.

  7. Dear God..... that was SO gross.

  8. A friend linked this video yesterday and my kids were freaking out as I watched it...

"YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO TOUCH DEAD ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Right, Mom?"

I know what was going through their heads was, "We nee to make sure this universal rule has not chganged because *that* little girl looks like she is having fun." LOL

  9. Ew! Ew! Eeeeeeewwwwww! This is so wrong and yet I love it. Those parents are way more calm than I would have been.

  10. Oh. My. Maude. I think I just PEED myself!! So WRONG!! LMAO!

  11. OMG, I think I just threw up a little bit.

  12. Nothing's cuter than a little girl infected with ringworm or tularemia thanks to playing with a dead tree rat!

  13. I have no words. I want to vomit and giggle the same time.

  14. I just keep thinking RABIES! MITES! FLEAS! TICKS! PLAGUE! AHHHHHHH!

  15. Notice that Dad zooms in on Mom's boobs.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I...whuck?! I mean....just...No. NO.

    ReplyDelete
  17. That wasn't funny at all. :-( I was disturbed by the parent's behavior. As soon as they realized she was playing with a dead squirrel they should have given her a bath...not filmed her playing with the poor dead animal.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Um...ick. I'm with anonymous on the "rabies, mites, fleas, ticks, plague" thought. Creeped out beyond belief over here...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yay for that Mom not totally losing her schmidt. When the dad says "What are you gonna do now?" I yelled "TAKE A BATH IN BLEACH AND LYSOL THAT'S WHAT!" Blegh

  20. Notice Mom also says to get a shot of her so she can show the world her look of disapproval, says a little "f*&%" as she puts the dog in the house, and keeps walking away from the situation, and also said "Respect!" in passing.

As much as I'd like to think I wouldn't allow this to happen... I mean they saw how it died, and when it died. My boys bring me dead lizards on a weekly basis and they keep them and poke at them until they disappear, they've brought me dead baby birds. It's too much freakin' work to try and wrestle them away from a close-up look at nature.

  21. There are just no... words... EEEEWWWWW!

  22. hilarious. just completely hilarious.

  23. That squirrel was pretty fresh, and at least nothing was squishing out.

    ReplyDelete
  24. My wife would be spraying that child with a fire hose of bleach water....

  25. I wanted my bath, too, after watching this video. I also /need/ to see the video of what happened when she came back looking for her "sweet baby squirrel" after her bath. I'm sure what happens in that video will be *even more* instructive for parents of young children everywhere.

Yeah, major bonus points to the mom for keeping her cool. I would have screamed so loud that they would have stopped flood protection in the Mississippi to come check me out. THEN, they would have had to have an entire SWAT Team keep me from killing my husband. *gag-n-shudder*

That being said, I gotta second Allie here. Kids do gross things, and that could have been a helluva lot grosser. (But we're not going to talk about grossness levels it could have reached because then I will hurl.)

  27. I hope I never move to suburbs/country... I would hate to lose my city edge (read: have a healthy fear for all things on four legs, dead *or* alive). Although I hear country squirrels are so much sweeter than the city ones.

That was gross and thumbs down for the parents filming that. Yuck.

    ReplyDelete
  28. That is AWESOME on so many levels!

(Love that despite his kid feeling up a dead squirrel the dad can still zoom in on the mom's boobs for a sec)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't even watch the video. Just the still picture of a kid holding a squirrel creeped me out, then I read the comments! EW! Dead! Squirrel! Ew! Ew! Ew!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I was on the edge of my seat, just waiting for the tree rat to come back to life and freak the freak out at any minute on that poor child.
Why-WHY, for the love of Maude- was that worth filming? Little girl=-cute as a button; little girl with dead squirrel=NOT SO MUCH!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Initial reaction: WHUCK!!!?!?!?!?!
Then: Please don't kiss the squirrel, please don't kiss the squirrel, please don't kiss the squirrel....

    ReplyDelete
  32. Almost (almost) as bad as my niece, walking through an orange grove, carrying an enormous (ENORMOUS), dead (headless, no less) rattlesnake. "Look daddy....I think it's dead. Can I take it home?"

    ReplyDelete
  33. LMAO!!!!! I have to say I think I may be more freaked out that the child is playing w/ a dead animal than I am that my OWN KID is watching this w/ me. H A HA HA HA HA oh my word! Funnnny. I don't see the whole issue on the "poor dead animal" issue...hey...let it happen. Think about when WE were kids..??? omg! We saw all kinds of stuff we NEVER see now. yeah.funny. I loved it.

  34. They will never sell that house...

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm with Kim - I kept expecting the squirrel to jump up and run away. I've been watching too many kid shows apparently.

Laughing, but it is just so wrong.

    Love the zoom on mom!

  36. i'm crying and peeing a little. Oh dear Maude, that's the funniest.thing.ever.

    ReplyDelete
  37. And a serial killer has been born.....lol

    ReplyDelete
  38. You have no idea how badly I needed this. No idea. I didn't either.

    ReplyDelete
  39. ok, this was too good :) thanks for sharing. i'm still giggling :)
if u liked the squirrel video, you'll like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz-sC-vSIXk&feature

its also in the "so damn wrong, but..." category

  40. So above and beyond the obvious issue that many of the above people have mentioned, has anyone thought of the possibility that their dog just killed a small animal? I get that they are bred to chase small animals, but it actually killed a squirrel. Maybe you want to keep an eye on this dog around small children? Not that I'm questioning their parenting skills, because I'm pretty sure that most parents initial response to their three year-old playing with a dead wild animal is to video tape it or to make sure you get a shot of their "disapproval". Scary.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Cute little girl but this video is just wrong. Someone needs to tell these parents to protect their child from parasites and pervs eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  42. This has caused quite a stir our way too!!!
I have to admit though that the reason I couldn't resist posting it in the first place is that I let my daughter play with a dead bird one time. It's how I lost my Mother of the Year Award! eek
    Thanks for sharing!!

  43. I won't fault mom and dad for filming this... clearly they were documenting what will be used to shame and embarass her for years to come. Just think, when her prom date comes over to pick her up, Dad will bring out his iPad12 (as thin as a sheet of paper! fold it up and put it in your pocket!... alas still on 3G technology) and play that video for her date.

In all "seriousness" I probably would have done the same, especially with family living far away, they'd want to "share" in these "special" "moments" ...can't think of another word to use quotation "marks" (ah there it is).

    ReplyDelete
  44. Seriously? Are these the most uneducated parents on the planet?? Disgusting and dangerous. The only thing more disturbing than the video is the laughing comments.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love the comments that make it sound like ALL animals are infected with deadly diseases and being within a ten-foot radius means instant death to all involved. For the love of Maude, people, calm down and use a little common sense. Would we have made it this far as a species if we couldn't touch dead animals? Think real hard about what you ate for dinner and whether or not you eating it involved someone touching a dead animal. The girl washed afterward, and I think it's cute that she's being raised not to be terrified of imaginary boogeymen.

  46. Horrifyingly disgusting and I work in an Operating Room and see guts and stuff.

    Just no.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ooooh god-I'm laughing and vomiting at the same time. I know it's wrong and gross but I can't look away...and I seriously hope that was a long hot bath with a shot of lysol.....

    ReplyDelete
  48. Wow, so those who think this is no big deal ... you do realize that squirrels can carry freakin' bubonic plague, right?? Not to mention ticks, which can carry Lyme disease??

You may think this is cute and funny. But if there's even a 1 percent chance this squirrel could have the PLAGUE, you should revamp your sense of humor.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I once found a dead bird on the street when I was 4 years old and brought it back to my mom and said, "Look, Mom, I found a hurt bird. Can you fix it?" She was very calm and explained to me that it was actually dead and that she sadly couldn't "fix" it. And that we must never touch dead animals because they could have fleas and stuff.

And guess what? I LIVED. I never died from the bubonic plague or ANYTHING. It's a MIRACLE!
