Neville Longbottom is Bringing the Hawtness

Hello! It's time for the requisite Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows post.

Kate and I are insanely into these books and movies and worship JK Rowling like the goddess she is.  Little Miss Fancy-Pants-I-Wear-Jimmy-Choos-to-the-Grocery-Store Kate and her daughter McGee went to go see it in costume at midnight the night it opened.  I'm waiting til next week when I get a sitter and the crowds have died down but I can not wait.  Kate has been to Harry Potter world at Universal Studios. I have loaned out my HP library to all the neighbor kids but then I make them have really long conversations about it with me.  About why certain spells only work on objects and not people and how Draco has it really hard and most people don't get that...

Bottom line? We are dorks and we own it.

Bearing that in mind you will understand why we both squealed like a couple of 11 year olds at a Bieber concert when we saw this picture this week:

(Taken from NY Magazine)

I could look at this frigging picture all day long.  These guys were photographed supporting Daniel Radcliffe at a performance of his play "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying".  Oh my goodness! They are so awesome and they look so genuinely happy for him and to be together and they're all so grown up and cute and holy mother of mercy is that Neville Longbottom on the left??!!

Oh even yesser.

Let's take a little trip down memory lane:

and then there's this...

We have no idea why his transition from sweet, chubby little guy to total heartthrob makes us so happy but it just does.  Maybe its because we love the character of Neville so much.  Maybe because Neville epitomizes the idea that no matter how weak or chubby or ridiculed or discounted you are, the potential to do amazing things is always there if you're just brave enough to try.  And this actor's transformation from boy to man just makes that magic seem all the more real.  And we need all the magic we can get.

Rock on, Neville.

xo, Kate & Lydia

  2. I seriously thought I was the only one...and was feeling super icky about it. No more, I own it (and he is of age, so only minor weirdness now).

  3. My sister and I, huge Potter fans, went Friday night (left the kids with the sitter!) and I can't help but say "Hell yeah" to this post- it was one of hte first things we said when we left the movie...when did Neville grow up to be such a hottie??

  5. He was the one that took longer, of those 4, in make up, there is an interview somwhere where he tell that they have to put false skin and teeth on him for the 3rd movie, or 4th. But he is so handsome in real life. Plus a great actor!.

I'm a dork for HP books too. I read the last one in 10 hours in a row.( my husband told me good night and then morning and I was still in the same spot finishing the book.. sans kids then.).

LOOVED the movie too. Hate some movis, like the 2nd such a bad movie!, Love the 3rd , kind of dislike the 5th and the 4th is soso. But this last to. OMG!. :)

As none of my kids are on age for the movie and we don't have family or nanny here I went alone to the movies last Friday. And loved it. :)

  6. I keep saying he looks SO much like a young Clive Owen.

  7. Neville all grown up looks just as I pictured Neville all grown up.

  8. Matthew Lewis is gorgeous, but Tom Felton *wipesdrool* is my fantasy crush.

  9. I have to say WOW!We had to wait till today, but it is worth the wait! WOW To the movie, to Neville's transformation, and to the fact that my 16 year old asked me to read HP7 aloud to her. Can't wait to spend the next few weeks reading a couple chapters a night.

  10. Holy smokes!!! He is way hotter than Harry himself! :D

  11. Saw the movie this morning, I dressed up for it too! My husband was only a little embarrassed. I am a true Gryffindork, and I own it. :) Neville really has come into his own, that suit picture pretty well screams hotness! Yummy!

  12. Exqueeze me whilst I pee myself. I never would have recognized that if you wouldn't have posted the progression pictures. Never in a million years. Neville haz teh hotness.

  13. I also felt icky because of his hawtness (and my noticing it!) LOL Thanks for making me feel less losery.

  14. I LOVE my Neville. He was adorable in all the movies.

  15. I'm a Harry Potter fanatic. I can't read the part in Sorcerer's Stone where Neville gets his 10 house points without crying. When I read book 7, I cried when he made his first appearance. I'm kind of afraid to see DH pt. 2, because I KNOW I will be bawling my eyes out through most of it.

  16. How can you not love Neville. He was always one of my very favourite characters (Luna, too!). And he is so flippin' hot!!! ;)

As an aside, is it just me, or does it look like Daniel needs a steak or something? He's so pale and unhealthy looking in that photo!

    Love you guys!

  17. Hubby says He heard they push his ears to the front, added false teeth and gave him shoes 2 sizes bigger so he was clumsy..

  18. I made the same discovery last week and actually had to google who he was. I can't believe that's the same kid.

  19. L.O.V.E Neville! I saw his photo on a web site and thought it was an old pic of Clive Owen. He Is a a serious hottie, and I don't feel too icky saying that because I'm only a few years older ;)

  20. Seriously, he's like Jerry O'Connell 2.0. I didn't think another doofy dude could make such a completely awesome transition to hotness.

  21. That poster is the best thing I've ever seen!!!

  22. Oh sweet Jesus. I think this makes me an official cougar.
    LOVE Neville!
Saw HP7 parte deux with my 10 y.o. daughter on Friday--midnight showing was sold out--and the only character she wanted to talk about was Neville. We both LOVED the movie.
This Neville crush reminds me of when the first Star Wars came out and while everyone was gaga for Luke Skywalker, I was telling my mom how much I liked Han Solo.
    Hmmm...just dated myself there.
    Ah well.
Can't wait to see what Neville/Matthew Lewis does next. He and Emma Watson seem to have bright futures.
~hi. My name is KathyT, and I am a Harry Potter geek.

  23. LOVE this!!!! Neville is the best. Can I say that the Neville cartoon at the end of your post is the best thing ever????!!!
I am also Harry Potter obsessed and would kiss the ground J.K. Rowling walks on because she is a brilliant artist that brought such an incredible world to life. My sister, good friend and I went to the midnight show and as it was ending I was hoping they would restart it because I could have just sat there for another 2 hours and stared at the brilliant performances!!!
The picture of the boys is incredible. They are too cute!!!

  24. First of all, is Daniel auditioning for a vampire role? If not, that boy needs medical attention, he looks terrible!

Second, I looked at the that picture and said "that looks like a group of frat guys you'd see on facebook". Not one of them look like multi-million dollar actors! But the picture of Neville all dressed up is a good look for him.

  25. Well, Hello there, Neville. Got any Gillyweed?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm still behind on the movies, but some of us remember Jerry O'Connell in Stand By Me. And then much later. *swoon*

  27. I can't *believe* you didn't mention that he was in DC at one of the theaters for a premiere. (Georgetown, maybe?) And I'm so glad you guys agree with me on his hawtness. My friends looked at me oddly when I mentioned it.

  28. I KNOW RIGHT????? My jaw dropped on the floor when I saw the hotness that is Neville. DAMN! You go boy!

  29. Please tell me you've read this:
    http://www.cracked.com/article_19266_5-movie-fan-theories-that-make-more-sense-than-movie.html

What if Neville really WAS the chosen one?!

Also, this totally gives credit to what my mother always said--the dorky boys in high school always turn out to be the attractive, smart, self-assured and successful (read: wealthy) ones when they grow up. It's SO TRUE!

    ReplyDelete
  30. i TOTALLY thought the same thing when i saw him in an interview. i was like, "who is this guy? and why is he pretending he's part of the cast?" and then i was like, "HOLY HOTMAN! it's neville!!"

and the mr. weasley is my favorite character HANDS DOWN, but neville definitely holds a special place in my heart.

and now he's hot. even better.

  31. Bless me Father, for I have sinned. I, too, have had impure thoughts about young Neville. RAWRFFF!!!

  32. Fantastic post! I laughed myself silly, I cried my eyes out, then I laughed out loud again!

"Maybe because Neville epitomizes the idea that no matter how weak or chubby or ridiculed or discounted you are, the potential to do amazing things is always there if you're just brave enough to try."

You have no idea how appropriate and meaningful that statement is for me right now. Thank you so much for this, and every other post you do! You ladies are wonderful!

  33. i own my Hp geekness. with the last book, my mom and i locked ourselves in her house with the phones unplugged so nobody could interrupt and the rule was that we could ONLY identify where we were at in the book by page number so we didn't ruin it for the other ones. draco and neville and even ron got HOT!!! and the movie was great. and my husband asks me all the time why can't they have used this spell (that he's heard on the movie) and i' all, cuz this spell (that i read in the book ) is better. .

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dear sweet mary mother of God....he looks like a hot version of Jake Gyllenhaal. Or however you spell that f*cker's name.

    HOT.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I, too, am a poor sinner and dang Neville is hot. That crooked little grin, those sexy eyes, excuse me, I need a moment.

I just love it when the fat kid grows up hotter than the popular kids. :)

  36. Oh, sweet Jeebus, the watch chain and the tie tack. My, my, help my little Anglophile heart!!

  37. Swoon.......so HOT!

  38. I thought the SAME thing. I saw him doing an interview. Stared. Then realized he was in fact Neville. Holy hotness.

    ReplyDelete
  39. swanky! step aside harry... not to mention, he's got some height on him (potter's a little... stunted it seems.)

question, though: why do they all look so mal-nourrished???

    ReplyDelete
  40. I thought I couldn't possibly love you ladies any more than I already do, but this post proved me wrong! I've loved the Harry Potter books and movies since they first came out (back in my 20s....sigh...)and hope that they won't seem hopelessly outdated by the time my kids are old enough for them!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Cool, I'm glad it's not just me.
BRING THAT MIMBULOUS MIMBLETONIA OVER HERE BABY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. AND the fact that Neville's mom offered to buy him McDonalds if they could just leave the audition line... he deserves to look fantastic now! And you're SO not alone. At almost age 36 I still proclaim to almost anyone who cares that Harry Potter and I (and JK, of course) share the same July 31st birthday. Kismet, I think.

  43. Puberty did nothing but good things to that boy. ;D

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh, even yesser!

  45. My daughter and I are complete HP freaks too!! Neville was definitely the star of HP7 pt2. Love his transformation!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Arrived here through completely random blog-hopping (one of those awake-at-4am-nights).
Neville was the big surprise of DH Pt2! Never mind all the special effects. Can I make you jealous by telling you that until last year JK lived just down the road from my children's school, and they would spot her outside her house sometimes as they walked to the bus?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ohmygoodgoddam!! I had no idea. Life as I know it has changed. I love it when somewhat awkward kids grow into themselves that well! Its like a big "Suck it!" to everyone who looked down on him as a child and thought they were so much cooler. You go with your bad self, Neville

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ohhhhh. Emmmmmm. Geeeeeee.

I don't know if Matthew Lewis plans on continuing his acting career, but I could see him as "Bond, James Bond" in a number of years.

    ::swoon::

Oh -- and to the poster who drooled over Han Solo rather than (whiny) Luke Skywalker all those years ago? YESSER. Love me some Harrison Ford.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Holy hell. I want to marry that last picture of Neville.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Rawr. OMG. Rawr! Love him!! I can't wait until my kiddos have the attention span to listen to the books. I plan to read them the whole series. Over & over & over again! And in my head I'll be seeing grown-up Neville :)

I'm a dirty ol' hooker these days. I never thought I'd feel so lecherous at the ripe old age of 35 ;)

    ReplyDelete
  51. ok, i posted this pic to my page last night and then was like, wait, is Ron REALLY wearing a shirt with Harry on it? cuz that's what it looks like ...

    ReplyDelete
  52. I met Matthew Lewis (Neville) a couple of years ago and I swear my mouth literally hung open at his hawtness! Was expecting the chubby little actor, not the tall hottie!
