While I’ve loved being home with my kids this summer, I have to be honest and tell you that I was really ready for school to start. We need a regular schedule. We need structured learning. We need to stop the cycle of staying up a little too late, watching a little too much TV, and having a little too much fun.
The last few weeks of summer make me want to cram ALL OF THE THINGS into every day. As a result, we were the least productive members of society that you’ve ever encountered and this includes people on reality TV shows. On the The Learning Channel.
Also, we seriously were getting dumber every day. I’m pretty sure my kids have not only forgotten, but unlearned all that they were taught last year.
Let’s now be very honest with each other - all of the family together time is awesome... Until people start bickering. Or decide they’re bored. Or wake up in a pooky mood and decide to wear their grouchy pants all day (yes, I mean me).
On those days, I was praying for school to start. But now that it’s here, I’m on the fence about it. I mean, we have agreed that swimming is pretty much the same as bathing in the summer - right? And that’s awesome. But then you have towels. The unending nightmare of a thousand pounds of towels in varying degrees of wetness that had come to define my life. But then I put them on the bus and cried my eyes out.
So I created this graphic to describe some of the reasons why I both love and loathe the return to school:
