Domestic Enemies UPDATED

The Highly Acclaimed, Award-Winning, World Famous* RFML Series...  It started with our Summer Enemies. Then, months later, we faced the Winter Enemies. Then Guru Louise said, "you have no idea what it's like if you live in a big city." And we said, "bring it on, NEW YORK! Write us all about it..." And she totally did.

And then you all kept writing and kept writing...

-Update January 2012 -
We've decided to retire the domestic enemies series for a while. We love these posts and its been super fun! But lately, every time we run one - things start to get ugly in the comments section. And while we always want everyone to be honest, that kind of thing isn't what we're about.

The point of these posts was (of course) to rant, but it was also to share a perspective that maybe even as a mom, we  hadn't thought about before. Kate & I are simple-minded creatures who try hard not to be Judgey McJudgersons and reading the rants of other moms actually taught us some stuff. It helped us be the kind of person who gets it. And that's the kind of person we want to be.

So now, if I see a little dude in Target having a melt down and flapping his hands - I smile at his mom and give her a thumbs up. Maybe her flappy guy is on the autism spectrum. If a friend tells me her kid has been diagnosed with ADHD, I'm not going to launch into some well-meaning soliloquy about how her kid is 100% fine and just needs to stop watching Sponge Bob. I will listen to her, and know that if her gut says there's something wrong - that there probably is.

Of course these rants were also supposed to be funny. And they are. But at least for us, they did more than make us laugh. They helped us understand other moms, so we could be better friends. And not accidentally be assholic and hurt someone's feelings because we didn't know any better.

But now the time has come to wrap this up. Love you guys and we hope you understand.

*actually, that's all totally crap...but it sounds good, doesn't it?
